Decentralized finance company Drift says it has suspended withdrawals and deposits after confirming a security incident. The crypto platform said in a post on X that it was “experiencing an active attack,” and that it was working to “contain the incident.” Security researchers and public blockchain data suggest the losses could be significant. Blockchain security firm CertiK said on X that hackers may have stolen around $136 million, while crypto analytics firm Arkham put the figure at around $285 million stolen. If confirmed, this would make the Drift hack the largest crypto theft of the year, according to the Rekt…
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Trump administration is appealing a judge’s order blocking the federal government from taking punitive measures against artificial intelligence company Anthropic after a dispute with the Pentagon over military use of AI.Department of Justice attorneys filed a notice in San Francisco federal court on Thursday of their intention to appeal last week’s ruling by U.S. District Judge Rita Lin. Lin last week said she was blocking the Pentagon from labeling Anthropic a supply chain risk. She also said she was blocking enforcement of President Donald Trump’s social media directive ordering all federal agencies to stop using…
Cash App, the peer-to-peer fintech app owned by Jack Dorsey’s Block, has launched a new “pay-over-time” deferred payment feature that allows eligible users to pay for their everyday transfers over an extended period of time. Companies have increasingly offered deferred payments for relatively mundane and everyday purchases. About a year ago, DoorDash partnered with Klarna—allowing users to “micro-finance” their food orders (the partnership notably inspired a flurry of online jokes about “burrito debt” and late capitalism). Cash App’s new feature clearly builds on this trend—expanding flexible financing into the P2P payment realm. To take advantage of the new feature, users…

Newsletter platform Beehiiv is introducing native podcast hosting, the company told TechCrunch. With this move, creators can now host, distribute, and monetize their podcast directly on Beehiiv. Users will be able to publish an episode, share it with subscribers, and track their analytics all on the platform. “Podcasting was an obvious move,” Beehiiv co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk told TechCrunch in an email. “Fundamentally, newsletters and podcasts have massive overlap. Both are typically episodic, long-form content, distributed to an owned audience, monetized via sponsorship. Our roadmap is heavily driven by our customers. They’ve told us that they really want to…
Startups are often quick to say they value diversity but are slow to implement hiring practices that reflect that. It is the path of least resistance for a growth-stage company to hire from the familiar Silicon Valley pipelines, but if a founder wants a diverse team, that value has to be put into practice from the very first hire. Leah Solivan, the founder of Taskrabbit and founder and managing director of Precedent.VC, joined Isabelle Johannessen on Build Mode to discuss how she thought about hiring while leading Taskrabbit. As the company scaled from being bootstrapped on Solivan’s personal credit cards…
Good news for people who regret the Gmail address they came up with when they registered for an account: Google is now letting users change it. Google started quietly rolling out the change late last year in India and said this week in a blog post that it’s now available for all Google Account users in the United States. There were no details on when it would be available to users in other countries. Google’s CEO suggested the update will be welcomed by people who want to keep their accounts but have outgrown the awkward, embarrassing or nonsensical Gmail handles…
An electric vehicle (EV) is left to charge at a charging station in Tehran on February 23, 2026.Atta Kenare | Afp | Getty ImagesThe sprawling Middle East crisis is expected to spur drivers to abandon traditional internal combustion engine vehicles in favor of EVs, analysts told CNBC, although early evidence suggests this will be a gradual gearshift. The Iran war has severely disrupted oil exports through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which typically carries about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquified natural gas (LNG). It has underlined the extent to which the world remains deeply reliant on fragile…

Micromobility company Also, which was created inside Rivian and spun out last year, will work with DoorDash to develop autonomous delivery vehicles, the companies announced Tuesday. As part of the deal, DoorDash took part in Also’s $200 million Series C funding round, which was led by previous investor Greenoaks Capital. DoorDash is getting a seat on Also’s board of directors, too. The raise brings Also’s total funding to $505 million, and puts its valuation above $1 billion.
