Android users are now able to edit their photos with AI, Google announced on Tuesday. In Google Photos, users will be able to talk to the AI using natural language to describe how they want to edit their photo via either voice or text, Google says. The feature is designed to make it easier to edit photos without having to understand which editing tools to use or where they can be found in the app. The Gemini-powered feature was initially made available to those with the newly launched Pixel 10 devices in the U.S., introduced in August. Luxury car-maker Jaguar Land Rover will not resume production at its factories for yet another week as it continues to grapple with fallout from a cyberattack. Jaguar Land Rover has not said what data was stolen. Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement on Tuesday the production suspension will continue until next week, specifically Wednesday October 1. But the company did not commit to resuming production then, only saying it “made this…
Rapido, a popular ride-hailing platform in India that competes with Uber, has doubled its valuation to $2.3 billion following a secondary share sale by food delivery giant Swiggy. The share sale comes just weeks after Rapido began piloting food deliveries, edging into Swiggy’s core territory. Swiggy has offloaded its entire 12% stake in Rapido for ₹24 billion (about $270 million) through two separate deals, according to regulatory filings. Around 10% of the stake is being acquired by Prosus for ₹19.68 billion (roughly $222 million), while the remaining stake is being sold to WestBridge Capital for ₹4.31 billion (about $49 million),…
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Secret Service has found and is quietly dismantling a massive network of “SIM farms” across the New York area just as world leaders gather for meetings at the United Nations.Matt McCool, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s New York field office, said agents found multiple sites filled with servers and stacked SIM cards, of which more than 100,000 cards were already active. Though the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, he described it as a well-funded, highly organized enterprise and possibly run by nation-state actors — perpetrators from…

ABILENE, Texas (AP) — The afternoon sun was so hot that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman traded his usual crewneck sweater for a T-shirt on the last legs of a Tuesday visit to the massive Stargate artificial intelligence data center complex that will power the future of ChatGPT.OpenAI announced Tuesday that its flagship AI data center in Texas will be joined by five others around the U.S. as the ChatGPT maker aims to make good on the $500 billion infrastructure investment promoted by President Donald Trump earlier this year.Stargate, a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle and Softbank, said it is building…
As Google’s project manager for developer tools, Ryan Salva has a front-row seat to the ways AI tools are changing coding. Formerly of GitHub and Microsoft, he’s now responsible for tools like Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist, nudging developers into the new world of agentic programming. His team released new third-party research on Tuesday showing how developers actually use AI tools — and how much progress is left to make. I sat down with Salva to talk about the report and his personal experience with AI coding tools. This interview was edited for length and clarity. Every year, Google…

This is not California state Senator Scott Wiener’s first attempt at addressing the dangers of AI. In 2024, Silicon Valley mounted a fierce campaign against his controversial AI safety bill, SB 1047, which would have made tech companies liable for the potential harms of their AI systems. Tech leaders warned that it would stifle America’s AI boom. Governor Gavin Newsom ultimately vetoed the bill, echoing similar concerns, and a popular AI hacker house promptly threw a “SB 1047 Veto Party.” One attendee told me, “Thank god, AI is still legal.” Now Wiener has returned with a new AI safety bill,…
