ChatGPT’s growth is starting to taper off, according to new data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Today, the OpenAI-owned AI chatbot remains the leader in the space, accounting for 50% of global downloads on mobile devices and 55% of the global monthly active users. However, Google’s Gemini has begun to outpace ChatGPT in terms of download growth, growth of monthly active users, and growth of time spent in app, the firm found. Meta’s decision to serve only its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to WhatsApp users isn’t sitting well with the competition regulators in Europe. The European Commission on Thursday said it is launching an antitrust investigation into Meta’s move to ban other AI companies from using WhatsApp’s business tools to offer their own AI chatbots to users on the app. WhatsApp in October changed its business API policy to ban general-purpose chatbots from the chat app, saying that the API isn’t designed to be a platform for the distribution of chatbots. PARIS (AP) — French officials are investigating an illegal drone overflight of the Atlantic coast base for France’s nuclear-armed submarines, authorities said Friday. French media reported that several drones were detected Thursday night over the Île Longue base in Brittany, western France, but military authorities wouldn’t detail their number or type. Spotify says yesterday’s launch of its annual year-in-review feature, Spotify Wrapped, was its biggest ever. The streaming service reports that Wrapped 2025 saw over 200 million engaged users within the first 24 hours, 19% more than last year’s AI-centered flop. Last year, it took Wrapped 62 hours to reach 200 million users, the company noted. Engaged users are counted as those who have viewed at least one of the stories within the Wrapped experience.
