LONDON (AP) — Hewlett Packard is owed more than 700 million pounds ($943 million) from British tech tycoon Mike Lynch’s estate and his former finance director after they lost a fraud case involving Lynch’s software company, a U.K. High Court judge ruled on Tuesday. The court’s decision comes nearly a year after Lynch was killed when his superyacht sank off Sicily, where he had gathered with friends and family to celebrate his acquittal months earlier in a separate U.S. criminal trial. The U.S. tech company, now known as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, had accused Lynch of fraud and conspiracy after it bought…
Apple is taking its time with AI. While most tech companies are racing to push out AI features as fast as they can, Apple is doing the opposite. Its big announcement – Apple Intelligence – won’t arrive for most users until 2026. That’s a long delay in a market where speed seems to matter more than quality. But maybe that’s the whole point. At this year’s WWDC, Apple showed off new AI features tied to Siri, writing tools, and app suggestions. It called the bundle “Apple Intelligence,” but those tools won’t be widely available any time soon. For now, they’re limited…

The founder of a spyware company who was banned from the surveillance industry following an earlier data breach is now seeking to undo the ban, according to the Federal Trade Commission. In a notice on Friday, the federal watchdog said Scott Zuckerman sought to rescind or modify the 2021 ban imposed by the FTC on his company Support King and its subsidiaries. The ban included a provision requiring Zuckerman to maintain certain cybersecurity practices and undergo frequent audits for any of his businesses, after his spyware subsidiary SpyFone in 2018 spilled thousands of people’s private phone data, including photos, messages,…
TUNBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) — An electrical engineer by trade, Patrick Schlott has spent countless hours tinkering with new and old technology. But it wasn’t until he found himself living in rural Vermont that he realized his penchant for repairing old pay phones could provide a public service.“I realized, wow, there’s no cell service for 10 miles (16 kilometers) in either direction,” he said. “The community could really benefit from something like this.”Schlott, a full-time engineer at electric airplane manufacturing company BETA Technologies, decided to approach the owners of his local general store with the idea to install old pay phones…
AI models from OpenAI and Google DeepMind achieved gold-medal scores in the 2025 International Math Olympiad (IMO), one of the world’s oldest and most challenging high school-level math competitions, the companies independently announced in recent days. The results underscore just how fast AI systems are advancing, and yet, how evenly matched Google and OpenAI seem to be in the AI race. AI companies are competing fiercely for the public perception of being ahead in the AI race: an intangible battle of “vibes” that can have big implications for securing top AI talent. A lot of AI researchers come from backgrounds…
The Tesla Diner & Drive-In, a long-awaited and hyped facility that combines retro nostalgia and futurism with the automaker’s fast-charging network, officially opened at 4:20 p.m. Monday in Hollywood, California. The Tesla Diner & Drive-In is technically a place for Tesla drivers to charge their EVs and maybe get hamburger, hot dog, or other classic diner menu items (which Eater shared in full). The diner, which per reporting from Not a Tesla App is loaded with Tesla-branded merchandise, an Optimus robot, and two 45-foot LED movie screens, is clearly hoping to attract more than just Tesla owners. It’s too early…
South Korean AI chip startup FuriosaAI announced a partnership on Tuesday to supply its AI chip, RNGD, to enterprises using LG AI Research‘s recently unveiled EXAONE platform. RNGD is optimized for running large language models (LLMs) and just last week, the Korean tech giant LG unveiled its next-generation hybrid AI model EXAONE 4.0. The collaboration targets key sectors, including electronics, finance, telecommunications, and biotechnology, for a range of diverse applications. This news comes roughly three months after FuriosaAI declined Meta’s $800 million acquisition offer, opting to remain independent. The deal fell through due to disagreements over post-acquisition business strategy and…

Silicon Valley is doubling down on defense as geopolitical tensions rise and appetite for modernizing warfare grows. And while many of the startups garnering large valuations are focused on hardware and weaponry — think Anduril, Shield AI, and Skydio — Rune Technologies wants to tackle AI-enabled software for military logistics. “The U.S. military runs on Excel spreadsheets and whiteboards and manual processes right now to execute logistics operations,” co-founder David Tuttle told TechCrunch. “Logistics is never the sexiest part of the military. The technology industry emphasis is on how do we make things go boom? How do we build great…
