Thomas Perfumo, Chief Economist at Kraken, offered deep insight into how Bitcoin is evolving—and why it doesn’t neatly fit into any one box. Speaking to TheStreet Roundtable host Scott Melker, Perfumo pushed back on the idea that Bitcoin trades strictly like either gold or a tech stock. “Bitcoin actually just noted a new all-time high when denominated by the Nasdaq,” Melker pointed out, highlighting the asset’s unpredictable identity in the current macro landscape. Perfumo agreed that Bitcoin’s behavior is unique, shaped by its stage of maturity in the adoption cycle. “When you see price signals in gold, gold price rising,…

Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle technology company WeRide plan to expand a commercial robotaxi partnership and bring the service to another 15 cities over the next five years. The expansion comes five months after the two companies launched a commercial robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi.  The companies said the expansion will include cities in Europe. Under the partnership, WeRide’s robotaxi services are available through the Uber app. The relationship is similar to Uber’s deal with Waymo, in which the ride-hailing company handles the network routing and fleet operations, while the autonomous vehicle company remains responsible for the AV tech. MSTR earnings came out May 1. My morning media stops last Thursday (here and here) asked for a preview. We don’t talk about stocks, so I planned to zoom out and hit themes. While preparing, I had to suppress the eye-roll reflexes that MSTR triggers. MSTR, of course, is the ticker symbol for MicroStrategy, or Strategy, as the company is now known. Strategy, fronted by Michael Saylor, pioneered the “bitcoin treasury” model that’s now been copied by Metaplanet and dozens of other companies. Strategy plans to raise $84 billion, according to its most recent announcement, across equity and fixed income…

Waymo has played coy for years about exactly how many Jaguar I-Pace EVs are in its autonomous fleet — a figure that covers vehicles used in testing and commercial robotaxi operations. On Monday, the Alphabet company finally provided a peek at the commercial side of the fleet. Waymo said Monday, as part of a larger announcement, that it has more than 1,500 commercial robotaxis in operation. And work is underway to expand it through a multi-million-dollar investment with Magna to build more than 2,000 autonomous I-Pace vehicles at a new factory in Arizona. Waymo has worked with Magna for years,…

Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor who helped shape Berkshire Hathaway into a global investment powerhouse, is stepping down as CEO at year-end — but his distaste for bitcoin (BTC) will likely live on at the firm. Buffett, who will remain chairman of the board, has famously described bitcoin as “rat poison squared” and a “gambling token,” signaling a strong ideological opposition to digital assets. His legacy on this issue casts a long shadow over his successor, Greg Abel, who now takes the reins of day-to-day leadership. For investors hoping for a shift in Berkshire’s crypto stance, the odds look slim.…

The leading Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Maxine Waters, will block efforts to hold a joint hearing between her committee and the House Agriculture Committee on Monday’s newly unveiled market structure discussion draft bill. Under House rules, all participants in a joint hearing need to agree to proceed. Waters will object to the joint hearing and prevent it from proceeding as planned, a Democratic staffer told CoinDesk, pointing to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent and increasing engagement with crypto. The Financial Services and Agriculture Committees announced they would host a joint hearing on market structure issues last…

Democrats are putting up new resistance to crypto legislation prioritized by the Trump administration as they object to the involvement of the Trump family in that industry, in addition to a host of other issues. Their resistance burst into the open this past weekend as nine Democrats, led by Sen. Ruben Gallego (Ariz.), released a public statement opposing the GOP-led Senate bill that seemed likely to deliver a major crypto win for Trump and Republicans. The bill would establish rules governing stablecoins. Stablecoins are pegged to other assets, such as the US dollar. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer last Thursday…

Every year, donors contribute billions of dollars to charities, yet the donation process still feels outdated and cumbersome. Founders Dan Eblagon and Ron Levy believe there is an easier way to donate, leading to the creation of Bono, a platform designed to facilitate a more modern and streamlined approach to giving.  The platform (named after the phrase “pro bono,” not the singer of the same name) focuses on connecting users with a selection of vetted charities based on which causes they care about, such as the climate crisis, LGBTQ+ rights, ending animal suffering, and more. Users set a monthly plan,…
