Christoph Schell, Intel’s EVP and chief commercial officer, is leaving the company after two years in the role, according to a filing with the SEC.
Schell notified Intel of his decision to leave on Monday, and will resign on June 30 “in order to pursue another career opportunity,” per the filing.
It isn’t clear who will replace Schell. Greg Ernst, CVP of Intel’s sales and marketing division, will step in as interim leader, a spokesperson told TechCrunch.
“Christoph has worked tirelessly on behalf of our customers during his time with Intel and we are grateful for his many contributions to our business,” the spokesperson said. “We wish him the very best in his next role.”
Schell, who also led Intel’s sales, marketing and communications group, reporting directly to the office of the CEO, joined the company in February 2022. He previously was the chief commercial officer at HP; EVP of growth markets for Philips; and a brand management lead at Procter & Gamble.
Schell’s departure comes as Intel undergoes a dramatic transformation under recently appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan. The new CEO has moved to spin divisions of the company into “noncore” units, sold its majority stake in its Altera semiconductor business, and flattened the tech giant’s executive structure. He also appointed a new AI chief and plans to greatly reduce the company’s workforce.
Earlier this month, Tan mandated four days in the office for all employees (the company had previously allowed some hybrid and remote work), and announced that Intel wouldn’t spin off its Intel Capital corporate VC arm as previously planned.
