WWDC 2025 kicked off Monday and as in previous years, the company focused on software updates and new technologies, including the next version of iOS, called iOS 26. This year, there was considerable pressure on the company to build on its promises and to make amends to developers as it lags behind in AI and faces continued legal challenges over its App Store. iOS 26 is the most dramatic design change in over a decade When Apple introduced a major overhaul to iOS back in 2013 with the launch of iOS 7, it felt jarring for many users with the shift from…

XRobotics thinks it has cracked the code on getting pizza restaurants to adopt robotics. The San Francisco-based robotics company built a countertop robot called xPizza Cube, which is roughly the size of a stackable washing machine and uses machine learning to apply sauce, cheese, and pepperoni to pizza dough. The machines, which lease for $1,300 a month for three years, can make up to 100 pizzas an hour and be retrofitted to work with pies of different sizes and styles, like Detroit and Chicago deep dish. “This saves like almost 70, sometimes 80% of the time for the staff,” Denis…
An autonomous drone carrying water to help extinguish a wildfire in the Sierra Nevada might encounter swirling Santa Ana winds that threaten to push it off course. Rapidly adapting to these unknown disturbances inflight presents an enormous challenge for the drone’s flight control system. To help such a drone stay on target, MIT researchers developed a new, machine learning-based adaptive control algorithm that could minimize its deviation from its intended trajectory in the face of unpredictable forces like gusty winds.Unlike standard approaches, the new technique does not require the person programming the autonomous drone to know anything in advance about the structure of…
